The first foray into U.S. Open Cup play came to an end in the second round for Tormenta FC Wednesday, dropping a 1-0 decision to Charleston Battery on the road.
A Patrick Okonkwo header in the 21st minute was the deciding factor in a game that didn't much feature either team's offensive abilities. In fact, Tormenta was held without an official shot in the game.
Both teams were reduced to 10 men in the second half. Charleston lost Nico Rittmeyer in the 63rd minute after being shown his second yellow card. It was the same story for Tormenta's Nil Vinyals in the 87th minute.
Tormenta will return to Statesboro and league play Saturday night when they host Peachtree City at Erk Russell Park in the 2018 home opener.
