BRYAN CO., GA (WTOC) - One of the best-selling gun manufacturers in the world celebrated a major expansion Thursday.
Daniel Defense officially opened the doors of their new building in Bryan County. The 300,000-square foot facility allows the company to grow. Company leaders say it also allowed them to consolidate between their South Carolina plant and their other one here in Bryan County.
The owners of Daniel Defense and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal cut the ribbon on what they said is a bright future for the gun-making company. Daniel Defense already makes about 2,000 rifles a week. This new expansion will increase their production and add jobs.
The building is designed to be added on to. Just 17 years after starting the company in Daniel's garage, his business now occupies a $29 million plant. They sell their products to law enforcement, military members, and civilians around the world.
"I'd been seeing it as I traveled up and down the interstate. I've seen the name on the building, and I was looking forward to being able to be here today, and it is a great facility," said Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
Governor Deal said the homegrown Georgia business serves as an example for others with an entrepreneurial drive. The state worked with Bryan County and Daniel Defense to make this a possibility.
"It wasn't easy. It was a lot of hard work, but we worked together as a team. We didn't fight each other about things," Daniel said. "We got together and figured out how to make it work, how we could get this done."
"This is absolutely proof of why we are the number one state for business. Companies such as Daniel Defense have continued to find that this is a great state where they can grow and where they can prosper," said Deal.
Daniel hopes his company does that well into the future.
Currently, a company spokesperson said there are about 210 employees at Daniel Defense. They're currently hiring about 15 more. If you're interested in working here, head over to their website.
