FT. STEWART, GA (WTOC) - The commanding general at Fort Stewart says he would welcome a new tank brigade that would bring roughly 4,000 additional soldiers to the Army post.
Maj. Gen. Leo Quintas said Friday his staff has sent information to the Pentagon outlining the advantages Fort Stewart has when it comes to training and deploying armored units. Fort Stewart leaders say they already have the barracks, motor pools, and other facilities needed for a new tank brigade.
"Lots of advantages to being here at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, not to mention the tremendous community support that we receive. It's a great choice to put more capability here at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. We provide the information, we give out best recommendation, and we see what the larger Army leadership decides," said Maj. Gen. Quintas.
An Army report says Fort Stewart is among five posts being considered for the new brigade.
