Good News: Savannah school earns Green Ribbon recognition

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Godley Station K8 School has been named a 2018 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School.

The school's garden club uses a greenhouse and green areas of the school to produce vegetables as part of the district's Farm to Table initiative, and the school cafeteria serves the veggies on its salad bar. Water saving receptacles and a solar panel have also been installed at the school.

"It's not just one person who gets an award like this. It's the entire district. It's the students, the staff, the people on the district level, as well as the teachers. This shows the kids all the work they've done matters. It matters to not only people here but it's noticeable around the nation," said lead garden club teacher, Cassie Martin.

School outdoor activities include Sweet Feet Soccer, Girls on the Run, Garden Club, and six athletic teams.
