SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Joe Buck and Betty Morgan are one step closer to becoming the next leader of the Savannah-Chatham County School Board.
Buck received 45-percent of the votes Tuesday while Morgan received 24-percent, so now they will both advance.
The Savannah-Chatham School Board that these two candidates want to lead has made headlines recently. Last year, it was the subject of an accreditation investigation. There's also been some tension among some of the board members.
Both Buck and Morgan say they want to change the culture of this school board and bring more unity to the table. Both also say they're ready to continue to spread their message over the next few weeks.
This top position is nothing new for Buck. He was the Savannah-Chatham School Board President several years ago and served for two terms, so he has previous experience as a school board leader.
Morgan says she's not going to let Buck's experience intimidate her, and she believes it's time for a change.
Morgan and Buck will face off in a runoff that's set for July 24.
