CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Chatham County investigators say a phone scheme involving artificial warrants is still active and continues to target citizens.
The scheme involves phone calls from individuals posing as Chatham County Sheriff's Deputies with demands for payment in order to resolve a fake legal or criminal matter. No member of the Chatham County Sheriff's Office would ever contact someone over the phone for such a response. Many individuals have already been victims of this scheme, so it is urged that people be careful not to provide any personal or financial information to these callers.
It's also important to always exercise caution when asked suspicious questions by an unknown caller.
