There's plenty of buzz about the Savannah Bananas at this point.
The team has built a national reputation over their first two seasons in the Hostess City, but the team's fanbase still impresses those new to the scene. That even includes the team themselves.
"Wow," said head coach Tyler Gillum.
That's all he had to say. The team's first year head coach was like many of the first-time Bananas, blown away by the support shown at Monday's Fan Fest.
Thousands of Banana Backers piled into historic Grayson Stadium Monday evening for the season kickoff party. As much as it was a chance for the fans to meet the team, it also gave the team a chance to meet the fans.
Gillum and the rest of his team came away very impressed.
"This place is unbelievable. You hear about it. but you don't really know all the craziness that goes on until you get here," Gillum admitted. "It's times ten [whatever you think it will be]. You can watch all the YouTube videos on the Bananas. But until you get here and you experience it, these fans, the people in this community, are unbelievable."
The Bananas expect the fun from Monday's Fan Fest to carry over to Thursday's season opener. The team will host the Macon Bacon to kick off the 2018 campaign. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at historic Grayson Stadium.
