Annual fan drive helps Savannah area seniors

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - As promises of sun and heat loom in the forecast, one senior-focused organization spent Tuesday making sure that Chatham County's elderly are kept cool this summer.

Senior Citizens Inc. hold their annual fan drive to help protect local seniors from the summer heat. Seniors must be 65 years or older to qualify and have a low income.

"Believe it or not, there are people here in our community that don't have air conditioning, and we're going into their houses every day and we want to make sure that we if see they need that extra little bit of assistance, we can provide it," said Patti Lyons, President of SCI.

Fans are available for pickup at the SCI headquarters Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Bull Street. The organization is also accepting donations of new box fans or cash to purchase one.

The fans will be given out through the end of July.
