LONG CO., GA (WTOC) - A fatal early-morning crash is under investigation in Long County.
It happened early Wednesday morning on Highway 84 near Walthourville.
According to Coastal News Service, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Quincy Melvin said 47-year-old Arthur Foster, of Long County, was killed after he was struck by a vehicle just after 5:30 a.m. on Hwy 84 near mile marker 13. Melvin said Foster was traveling eastbound when the left rear tire of his 1986 Ford pickup truck malfunctioned. He then partially pulled over onto the shoulder of the road leaving the rear of the truck exposed on the highway.
Foster had exited the vehicle in an attempt to warn oncoming drivers when he was struck by a 2002 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 29-year-old Joshua Tyre, according to GSP.
Foster was pronounced dead at the scene.
GSP continues to investigate the crash. However, Trooper Melvin said no charges are expected to be filed against Tyre.
