SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Police Department's Northwest Precinct's roll call was done outside in the community Wednesday.
Normally, SPD officers do their roll call behind closed doors before each shift. This time, they invited the community to take part. The event, called 'Roll Call in the Street,' is a chance for children in the community to interact with officers and share ideas.
"Unfortunately, most interaction with kids is not in a positive manner. Something has gone on that requires our presence, but this gives the opportunity to engage with them in a more friendly, more relaxed-type atmosphere," said Keith Edwards, Savannah Police Department.
This was the first 'roll call in the street' for Savannah PD's Northwest Precinct.
