POOLER, GA (WTOC) - The city of Pooler keeps on growing.
Wednesday, we got a look at a planned senior living community that will soon open its doors. It's just a fraction of an even larger development that will become part of the fabric of a rapidly growing community.
The community will be called Blakely Commons at Savannah Quarters, named by developers after Pooler physician, Dr. William Blakely. All told, the project will occupy 75 acres.
The first phase is almost done, and will be a 10-acre residential care community calls Shepherd Living at Savannah Quarters.
"I believe that Shepherd will open their community within the next 30 days," said Project Manager Mark Hall, also with Northpoint Real Estate.
Hall called the 130-unit community an amenity asset for the immediate area.
"I think what you'll see on the south end of the parkway is a little less dense, hopefully well planned, well thought out, but also meeting the needs of the overall community that haven't been met yet, and obviously medical and office are some of those components," said Hall.
Hall said the Blakely Commons project aims to open up to the surrounding neighborhoods and bring in businesses and services that are tailored to the area.
"Whether that's medical office, assisted living, independent living, some retail, upscale, neighborhood retail, that's what we'll be doing in Blakely Commons."
As far as what kind of regional, local shops Blakely Commons is courting, Hall said they're still early in that process, and adds they can be a little more selective to make sure whatever comes in will be the right fit.
