SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - There are some big improvements coming to the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport over the next three years that aim to make operations smoother for travelers as the airport continues to grow.
During Thursday's Savannah City Council work session, airport staff outlined some of the things to come, including a four-gate expansion, a security checkpoint expansion, and improvements to the rental car areas around the airport, which are slated to happen sometime next year.
"It's really exciting, especially the checkpoint. That's gonna help things," said Lori Lynah, Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. "It gets busy here early in the morning, middle of the day, right now, this time of day in the afternoon, and those things are really needed and it's going to be very helpful to have everything in place when we get even busier."
The whole list of improvement projects over the next few years carries a price tag of around $160 million.
