EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Effingham County sheriff's deputies pulled the truck of a chase suspect out of the Ogeechee River Wednesday morning.

ECSO officials said the chase started just before 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. A deputy near the Foxbow neighborhood on Highway 80 noticed a red truck with tags that belonged to a different car and tried to pull the truck over. The driver took off and led the deputy on a chase down Old River Road, ending up in the Ogeechee River. The driver then jumped out of the vehicle and swam away.

Officials pulled the vehicle from the river and the scene was cleared Wednesday morning. Officials recovered several items from the vehicle, but have not yet identified the driver. However, deputies say they want to speak with Coleman Hagan and Thomas Schmidt regarding the incident.
