SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The City of Savannah is hosting its largest convention ever.
Around 20,000 students are in town throughout this week for the National Beta Club Convention.
The scholastic competition is taking place at the Trade and Convention Center. Visit Savannah says they've been working with area businesses to make sure our stores and restaurants can handle the demand. They say this convention could bring nearly $14 million into the local economy. Most importantly, it's bringing like-minded students together.
"I feel like this convention is important because it shows the characteristics of Beta by leading to serve others and it is just a great way to show how we lead by serving others," said Buzz Ashley, National Vice President.
A second wave of students is expected to arrive in Savannah on Saturday to enjoy the convention.
