SOUTH CAROLINA (WTOC) - The South Carolina Primary may be over but some races are heading to a runoff.
Beaufort County will be voting between Mark Lawson and Mike Raymond to see who will represent Beaufort County Council in District 9. There were four GOP candidates on the ticket. Now, Lawson and Raymond are ready to square off in the runoff election.
Lawson was able to get 46 percent of the vote in the primary race on the GOP ticket on Tuesday.
"For me, I know more people in the area, and my background reaches out and touches more people from all different generations."
Obviously, the majority of Tuesday's voters favored Lawson, but Raymond isn't scared of this race.
"Campaign with four challengers, we knew it was going to be very difficult for anyone to get over 50 percent," he said.
Both candidates have a similar interest: continued growth in Beaufort County, protecting the environment, and a good quality of life for residents. We asked them, point blank, what's the difference and why should you go back to the polls and vote for them.
"I have a better grasp because I've been here so long, of what we're all looking for and what we want to preserve."
"The difference is what do you do beyond just talking about it. Do you have a plan, do you understand how to change the ordinance?"
The runoff election is scheduled for June 26.
