STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - One destination for fun in Statesboro generates big money.
The future for Splash in the Boro seems to get brighter and brighter as they bring more people and more money to the community. Visitors pour into the water park, and for many, the trip there has become a regular part of the season.
"You guys come here how often during the summer," we asked one visitor.
"Three or four times at least, said Teshia Fallen from Guyon. "But when we're in town, at least once a week."
They are alone. In its fifteenth season, the county-owned recreation park keeps bringing folks to The Boro.
"People would be shocked to know we had 140,000 people visit Splash in the Boro last summer, and not all of them are locals. They come from all over the state, from Florida, South Carolina," said Becky Davis, Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Visitors also means a steady stream of money all over town.
"They're staying in hotels, they're eating in restaurants, they're buying gas here. They're shopping...," Davis said.
Guests like the small-park feel, even after several expansions.
"I can let the 12-year-old do her thing and watch over the younger one, and the park isn't so overwhelming that I feel guilty for not watching over the 12-year-old," Fallen said.
The folks at Splash hope they can continue to be the destination to be at during the summer.
