SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Juneteenth is a festival celebration of the emancipation from slavery. People across the south celebrate the day of freedom.
Here in Savannah, Wells Park played host to a festival. Lillian Grant-Baptiste performed a libation ritual as a way to remember ancestors and celebrate the path they made for others.
"To me, that's important because I understand where I come from, where we come from," said Grant-Baptiste. "A people who have endured tremendous obstacles who have managed to survive and not just survive but to thrive anyway."
Performers danced and sang at the event. Artists also set up tents around the park. People of all ages were there to celebrate.
