Bulloch County sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal shooting that took place at the intersection of Highway 80 East and Burkhalter Road, Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the area at 7:49 p.m. to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators say the victim had been involved in a confrontation with another man whom he knew. An off-duty officer was nearby and attempted to provide first aid to the victim. He also immediately provided information concerning the suspect vehicle description and direction of travel.

Officers say this may have happened at a traffic light, but this was no random road rage incident. They say the two men have had issues for a while.

"This has been going on for about a month-and-a-half between the two males, over the girl, that led to the incident at the intersection," Bulloch County Sheriff, Noel Brown, said.

The suspect vehicle is described as a silver, four-door Kia Sorento with a North Carolina license plate. A person of interest has been identified as 26-year-old Jerry Thomas Pritchard.

Witnesses say Brandon Lively pulled up behind Pritchard, got out of his truck and headed towards Pritchard's car. Investigators believe Pritchard shot Lively and drove away. An off-duty deputy was buying gas across the street when it happened.

"Rushed right over to administer aid to the young man who died of his injuries and get more help on the way," Sheriff Brown said.

The sheriff says patrol deputies worked with the investigators to help track down Pritchard at a relative's house. He and the female remain in jail pending a first appearance hearing.

Investigators continue to inspect security camera footage and interview witnesses, but if you drove by around that time and saw something, get in touch with the sheriff's office as soon as possible. Contact Investigator John Quattlebaum at 912.764.1785.
