BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - The new interim superintendent for the Beaufort County School System is already making plans for the coming school year at Tuesday night's special called meeting.
Hebert Berg was selected earlier this month. He's spent 46 years in education, including 37 years in superintendent positions. Berg says he was actually called to apply for the position and was told the school district needed help getting back on track. He made it clear he will not be taking a permanent role, but is dedicated to making a change for the better in his time here.
"Right now, when things are unstable, it would not be a good time to go out recruiting somebody, so what you need to do is lay out some months of stability then get into the recruiting business and help the board find a really good superintendent," Berg said.
Berg says this is not the first time he's been brought in to be a peacekeeper for a school system. However, he says he's not just here to hold things steady. He's here to make a visible change, especially within the school board.
