United Way Helping Young Evacuees

Savannah's United Way is giving people a unique opportunity to help Hurricane Katrina evacuees. For the second year in a row, they're collecting "pillow pals," pillowcases filled with all sorts of different things, like gifts and toiletries.

Usually the decorated bags are sent specifically to foster kids, but this year, some of the bags are going to kids who've evacuated to our area from the Gulf Coast.

"We feel like this is just one little token of something that is theirs, especially the children who probably have left with probably nothing besides the clothes on their back," said Shirley Sessions of the United Way.

The United Way will be collecting supplies for the pillow pals through October first. You can contact the Savannah office at 912.651.7700.
