Coast Guard Calls Off Search for Missing Shrimper

The Coast Guard has called off the search for a Thunderbolt shrimper reported missing early Tuesday morning. The crew of the shrimp boat God's Mercy tells the Coast Guard 31-year-old Kevin Washington was not on board when they returned from below the deck about 2:30am Tuesday morning.

They also say he was not wearing a life jacket.

The Coast Guard tells us they searched an area from seven to 16 miles off shore in Ossabaw Sound, using a helicopter, a C-130 transport plane and several boats.

Coast Guard officials called off the search last night and informed Washington's family of their decision when no sign of the shrimper was found.
