Statesboro shooting suspects make first appearance in court

BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) - Two suspects in a roadside shooting in Bulloch County Tuesday night appeared in court for the first time Friday.

Both Thomas Pritchard and Spencer Dutton will stay in jail at least for now in the shooting death of Brandon Lively. Pritchard is facing charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He's accused of shooting Lively at the intersection of Highway 80 and Burkhalter Road. Investigators say Lively pulled up behind Pritchard and got out of his truck, and that's when he was shot. They believe Pritchard and Dutton drove away. Deputies found them early Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, the two men had been feuding for weeks over a girlfriend (Spencer Dutton) and it came to a head in the road.

"When you have domestic situations, it can happen at the oddest times at the oddest places because you never know where people will get upset with each other," said Capt. Todd Hutchens, Bulloch County Sheriff's Office. "We're talking to witnesses, getting search warrants for different areas. We used K9s from Savannah and Georgia Southern in looking for evidence."

Dutton is facing charges of obstruction and hindering the apprehension of a fugitive. She appeared with her attorney separately in front of the judge. Both suspects can request a bond hearing in Superior Court, but they're remaining in jail for now.
