SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

As a way to say "Thanks for Your Patriotism", on Sunday any child 12 and under that could recite the Pledge of Allegiance was given a free scoop of ice cream at Leopold's Ice Cream on Broughton Street. The owner, Stratton Leopold, says the goal is to try to help teach young people a little bit about their civic duties.

"It's our eighth year doing this. We're actually represented in 30 or 40 states, the program is. It's great. The other shops across the country that do it, we ask nothing from them except do it," said Stratton.

July marks the beginning of National Ice Cream Month and the beginning of the I Pledge for Ice Cream Project.

If you missed out, you still have five more chances to go. The event will be held again on Sunday and on other days throughout the month.
