It’s been a week with lots of good news stories and we start with a happy holiday reunion for many Fort Stewart families.
The 3rd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade returned home this week after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.
More than 200 soldiers reunited with their families on Cottrell Field, just in time for Independence Day. After a brief ceremony, families and loved ones stormed the field to reunite with their Dogface soldiers.
The 3rd ID Sustainment Brigade oversees all logistics operations for the U.S., Afghan, and Coalition Forces in Afghanistan. Welcome home.
The Bluffton Township Fire District celebrated its 40th anniversary this week.
Firefighters honored the district's 40 years of service with a family-friendly celebration. They gave kids tours of fire trucks, let them try on firefighter gear and set up a firehouse sprinkler for kids to play under.
They also showed off some of the fire district's history, like old uniforms and equipment. Forty years ago, it was an all-volunteer organization, with one station and one truck. There are now almost 150 paid firefighters and eight fire stations.
And finally, for this Fourth of July week. I hope everyone had a great time celebrating our independence this week. I once again had the great pleasure in participating in my neighborhood’s Fourth of July parade. Our Magnolia Park parade seems to get bigger and bigger each year, though we’re not yet rivaling Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The best part of the celebration is gathering everyone at the end of the route for the Pledge Allegiance. A great reminder that we’re the land of the free, because we’re the home of the brave.
