SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Police Department arrested a man after he barricaded himself in a tire shop on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Thursday afternoon.
Police say they initiated a stop on 44th Street when a man ran from his silver pickup truck into the Tire City building on MLK and 45th, around 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
One other person was inside the building and officers were able to get that person out safely.
"I was coming out of the restroom and this little guy looked like he was scared to death," said James Blunt, an employee at City Tire. "He said, 'help me, help me.' I said, 'I can't help you, man.' He said, 'the police behind me.' I said, 'man, you need to go somewhere else.' At the same time, the officers came in with their guns and everything and scared me half to death. When you see somebody panicking, you don't know what's going on, but the officers came up with their little guns and everything and he wouldn't come out."
SWAT team members were able to coax the man out of the building.
"He thought I was going to harbor him in the shop and I can't do that. It's against the law," Blunt said.
