CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The 204 interchange bridge over King George Boulevard in Chatham County has a new name.
It will now be known as the Edward H. Zipperer Bridge. State lawmakers passed a resolution to name the bridge in honor of the longtime public servant.
Edward Zipperer served as a state senator, representing Coastal Georgia for eight years. He also served as the president of Chatham County Farm Bureau for 40 years.
"I never expected anything like this but it's a great honor to have something like a bridge named after me, and just so many thanks to all the people and the legislators who passed the resolution to make it possible. It's just great," Zipperer said.
Zipperer is also credited for bringing new state parks and recreational areas to Coastal Georgia.
