SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The new War Memorial Stadium seems to be coming along fine, and county officials seem pleased with the progress, but it won't be ready for the season opener.
The date that everyone feels comfortable with is Sept. 14, which is the third week of the season. There are three things that still need to be worked on at this point, including getting the new video board up, putting the finishing touches on the locker rooms, and completing the parking lot work on the East Side of the stadium. They feel like they can have that done in the next 29 days.
Chatham County Parks and Recreation Director Steve Proper explains says he feels good that they will have the work completed in the next 29 days.
"Yes, I feel really good about the date. Our general contractor Lavender, they've been great, and they pretty much have been upfront when certain milestones are going to happen, and meeting those milestones."
So far, only two games had to be moved. The first high school game slated for Memorial is between Savannah High and Southeast Bulloch.
