BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - A man used his pickup truck to pin another to a mobile home after a dispute turned violent on Murray Drive in Beaufort County Thursday night.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, along with fire and emergency service personnel, responded to the home around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officials spoke to witnesses while fire and EMS freed the unnamed victim from beneath the home and treated his injuries. He was transported to Beaufort Memorial and has since been transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina.
He is in critical condition.
Deputies learned at the scene that the victim had been involved in a dispute with Joey Little. At some point during it, Little drove his pickup truck toward the victim and pinned him against the mobile home, which then collapsed and trapped the victim underneath.
Little said he was just trying to protect himself.
"When he put the cinder block over his head, I knew at that point it was ... he's going to throw this cinder block and mess me up," he said. "I put my head down below the wheel and I mashed the gas. When I looked up, we were in this trailer and the trailer fell. The whole thing collapsed."
Little was at the scene when officers arrived and is currently being interviewed. As of this time, Little has not been charged.
"At this point, methodical investigation dictates that we remain objective and not rush to judgment," said Captain Bob Bromage, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. "So, we evaluate the evidence, we evaluate the witness statements, and we try to make the best decision possible before affecting someone's freedom."
The victim remains in the hospital in critical condition.
