SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah Police held a promotion and badge pinning ceremony on Friday.
Many gathered in the Lucas Theatre to celebrate the promotion of 10 officers and 17 graduates. The officers went through extensive training to earn the title of becoming a Savannah police officer.
We spoke to the training director for the police department, Alexander Tobar, who was promoted to the rank of captain. He says this job is truly about not what you receive, but what you give.
"The job's about relationships. The job is about training people, getting better, making sure they're sensitive to the community's needs," Tobar said. "Making sure that we're fair, that we're good to the community, and that we build those relationships. This job is truly about relationships."
Captain Tobar had a big role in training the recruits that were honored at the ceremony. He says as long as they can give the recruits the proper training, then Savannah is getting a great officer.
