Savannah publication celebrates 143rd anniversary

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Tribune celebrated their 143rd anniversary on Saturday with a biscuit brunch and a sneaker ball.

The Tribune is a weekly newspaper covering news and issues related to Savannah's African American community. Special guests included Dorothy Leavell and Dr. Benjamin Chavis Jr.

"We've almost become a multimedia instrument, " said Shirley James, the owner, and publisher of the Tribune. "But we specifically try to make sure we cover black issues, promoting, and uplifting the African American community."

WTOC's Dawn Baker was the host of today's celebration.
