STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - It took the Statesboro mayor and city council barely more than a minute to approve teaming with the Downtown Development Authority to host the first-ever "Downtown Getdown".
Council reached their unanimous vote with little discussion. The event will mean closing East Main Street for live music and more.
It's part of an effort to get people excited about Paint the Town Blue week and Georgia Southern's first home football game of the year.
"Also give them a reason to come downtown. Statesboro is a city with a great downtown area, so we want more people to start coming out and being a part of that as well," Mayor Jonathan McCollar said.
"Downtown Getdown" will be Aug. 31.
