BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - Beaufort law enforcement were prepping all of the lanes on Highway 278 to head westward until Governor McMaster called everything off around noon on Tuesday. Many residents are now heading back eastward towards home.
"Folks made an informed decision to get out of the way of the storm, which was a very good decision," said Lt. Col. Neil Baxley with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Emergency Managemet Division. "They went to place they were either familiar with.
Business owners say they hustled back to the low country so they didn't receive an economic hit any further.
While the county is trying to return residents and businesses to the lowcountry lifestyle, emergency services will continue to stand by in case counties northward need assistance.
For parents and students,schools in Beaufort county will be closed for the remainder of the week.
