Veterans Honored in Emmet Park Ceremony

This week, Americans around the world will honor our veterans. Last night, the Vietnam Veterans of America's Savannah chapter remembered fallen veterans at Emmet Park.

Dozens of men and women who served in the past, and still serve today, turned out to pay their respects for each soldier, Marine, airman, Coastguardsman and sailor who sacrificed, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"It's to honor all veterans who've fought in all wars that our country has been involved in," said Lionel Marmolejo, Vietnam Veterans of America, Savannah Chapter 671 president. "It's to honor these men who've sacrificed. Because of them, we have the freedom that we enjoy as Americans."

A bell was rung to mark each war where our servicemen and -women have served. Chatham County's Veteran of the Year, Charlie Hearn, placed a wreath in front of the Vietnam memorial.
