Top Teacher--Cynthia Egan

Cynthia Egan prides herself on keeping her students busy in a fun way. On a busy day at Marshpoint Elementary, her classroom is no different.

"In the morning when they come in, we're nonstop with reading, math and phonics," she said. "Later, they take time off and it helps because we do the most important stuff in the morning."

Right now, these first graders are working on language arts.

Egan wasn't always a teacher, though. This is actually her second job. "I was a housewife, and I worked as a waitress at night."

But when her kids became school-aged, she decided to get more involved. So, she went to AASU and got her teaching degree. It's a move she's never regretted, because to Egan, this is as fulfilling as it gets.

"By the end of the first grade, they come up and they're just reading like crazy," she said. "I just love it."

And it shows. That's why Cynthia Egan is this week's WTOC Top Teacher.
