Roger Allen goes above and beyond to be successful in school. And he's loving every minute of it.
He attends a gifted class created for students explore their likes and dislikes, and work on a wide variety of different projects. Like his classmates, Roger got there because of his great grades.
"Usually I'm in the mid-90s in most of the classes," he said.
His favorites are math and science, two classes he's loved for quite a while. "Oh, I've always been a fan of math and science," he said. "They've always been my favorite since, oh, first grade."
He likes to problem solve and do logical thinking. Something else he enjoys is reading. Fiction books top off his list of favorites, but Roger admits he'll read just about anything. "Lately, I've been reading a historical fiction book for a project."
When he's not doing that, he's practicing playing oboe for orchestra classes every Saturday, something he hopes to do for a long time to come.
As for the future, he told us, "I'm definitely going to go to college."
And chances are, he'll excel there too, just as he does at West Chatham Middle School.
