Red Cross Calls for Holiday Blood Donations

As people are shopping for their holiday gifts, the American Red Cross is hoping you'll give a gift that won't cost you a thing, but could save someone's life.

The Red Cross spent the weekend at the Bank of America at the Oglethorpe Mall, encouraging people to donate blood. During the holidays, blood donations typically drop off. But the need doesn't.

Many people will still require blood transfusions throughout the holiday season, and every donation helps. "We have to have at least 1,200 pints every single day to help 140 different hospitals in the area," said Herb Silverman with American Red Cross Blood Donor Recruitment Services.
