A Parris Island Marine charged with negligent homicide for the drowning death of Pvt. Jason Tharpe is back in court today. Staff Sgt. Nadya Lopez will soon be deciding if she will have a jury panel of Marines or a judge decide her fate at her court-martial.
Lopez is charged with negligent homicide and violating an order. During an investigation, officials found the swim instructor failed to recognize or ignored indications that Tharp was too tired or incapable of continuing the swim training.
Her court date is scheduled for next month.
