A fire has gutted a Jesup radio station. Shortly before 8am this morning, Jesup fire crews raced to put out the flames that engulfed WLOP-AM and WIFO-FM. Employees managed to get out safely.
Jesup's fire chief says crews worked for two hours getting the fire under control. "We ended up with five departments, about 40 personnel and six engines, on the scene and the building's a total loss," said Chief Tony Brinkley.
The station was filled with audio equipment that can generate considerable heat, but investigators say a faulty electrical outlet started the fire.
