Recruit Drowning Case on Hold

Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Nadya Lopez is charged with negligent homicide and violating an order. She was supervising training at the pool at the Recruit Training Depot on Parris Island when Recruit Jason Tharpe drowned.

Officials are trying to decide if a judge or a jury panel of Marines should determine her fate. They put off the decision until mid- January, with the new court-martial date in February.
