Lovett Named Interim SCMPD Chief

It's official, Savannah city manager Michael Brown has named Asst. Chief Willie Lovett the interim chief of police for the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. Chief Lovett assumes the post immediately, replacing Chief Dan Flynn, who just retired.

The 32-year veteran has served in nearly every operational capacity of the police department, commanding both the patrol and criminal investigations divisions. He came up with the "neighborhood beat approach" which won him the International City Managers Association National Award.

Lovett will assume the position until a new police chief is named.
