The holiday weekend has not been without tragedy in the Coastal Empire. Savannah Chatham Police are investigating the first deadly accident in Chatham County over the holiday weekend. Early Christmas morning, a Pooler man was killed after he was thrown out of his car.
Police say 37 year old Wesley Williams veered off the shoulder of I-95 near milepost 106 around 3:00 Christmas morning. His car struck a guardrail and slammed into a metal post. Investigators say he was not wearing a seatbelt. Police are still looking into what caused the accident; however, they say speed or fatigue may have been factors.
Williams' death is the first in Chatham County since the start of the Christmas holiday travel period, which ends midnight, December 26.
