One Convenience Store Owner is Dead After an Armed Robbery

Garden City Police are searching for suspects in connection with an armed robbery and shooting that resulted in the death of a convenience store owner.

Police say about 8am Friday morning three men entered the Kwik Way Convenience Store on Highway 80 while two men stood guard outside. The men robbed the store then shot and killed the owner, 65-year-old Vipin Patel.

Garden City Police got to the scene so quickly, they saw a car speeding away from the scene and caught up to it on Alfred Street.

They arrested 19-year-old Anthony Haynes and 32-year-old Harry Newkirk. Later in the day Police also arrested 18-year-old Johnathan Johnson.

The three men are in the Chatham County Jail on several charges including armed robbery and murder.

Police are still searching for two other suspects in connection with the robbery and homicide.
