A Man Hunt in Jasper County Had Sheriff's Deputy's Looking for a Gunman.

A man hunt in Jasper County had Sheriff's Deputy's looking for a gunman. The man hunt was called off a short while ago. Investigators say it appears two men were fighting over a woman. That's when somebody ended up getting shot.

After a 911 call was placed, Sheriff's Deputies were on the hunt for Jerome Simmons. Investigators say he tried to kill a man by the name of Antwon Patterson.

As of right now in the preliminary investigation, Police believe that it might be over some type of girlfriend, but they are still investigating.

Investigators say Simmons tried to kill Patterson but ended up shooting him in the leg. Simmons took off and tried to hide from Police. As Jasper County Sheriff Deputies formed a perimeter, K-9 units were called to help find and arrest the gunman.

They set up a perimeter in the wooded area near the home where the shooting took place, and called Beaufort County tracking team, who arrived shortly afterwards and located him about a mile away from the shooting scene.

After searching for two hours, Sheriff's Deputies finally caught their man. They found him hiding out in the woods. Whether Simmons actually knew the man he shot is still under investigation. Simmons is now off the streets and behind bars.

Jerome Simmons will remain at the Jasper County Detention Center. He faces charged of assault and battery with the intent to kill.
