Soldiers From the Third Infantry's Aviation Brigade Returned Home After a Year Long Deployment in Iraq

Christmas may have been a few days ago, but the Holidays got underway for more than 200 Military families this morning. Their soldiers from the Third Infantry's Aviation Brigade returned from a year long deployment in Iraq. At 4am in the morning, some people were up early and some were up late. Others just slept through it all as families waited for their soldiers to come home from Iraq.

Many wore their hearts on their sleeves and everywhere else. Despite the hour, spirits were as high as the welcome home banners. New Year's Eve may still be days away, but when members of the Aviation Brigade marched in the hangar, Times Square couldn't hold the excitement.

Soldiers and loved ones waited through brief words and three short songs that must have felt like an eternity before the celebration began. After 12 months apart, they can't think of a better way to start a new year.

That wasn't the only group of soldiers re-united with their loved ones this morning. More than 270 soldiers returned to Fort Stewart around 2am. The rest of the Third Infantry returns home in the next few weeks.
