Hilton Head Island Schools on Alert Following New Threat

The following was released by the Beaufort County School District

The Hilton Head public school campus was on a high level of security Friday as the result of another telephone threat. Parents should check local media and the main telephone number at each school (Hilton Head High – 689-4800, Hilton Head Middle – 689-4500, Hilton Head IB Elementary – 342-4100, HH School for the Creative Arts – 342-4380) on Sunday and Monday morning for any updates of potential schedule changes for next week.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the situation. Deputies assisted the schools on Friday. Hilton Head Middle School students and their backpacks were searched upon arrival. While the threat named Hilton Head Middle School, the school district put the entire campus on the high level of alert.

Parents, students and the community are encouraged to share any information regarding this case with the Sheriff’s Department by calling 911 or 524-2777.

“This has been an unfortunate and unsettling situation” said John Williams, Assistant Superintendent of Information & Operations for the Beaufort County School District, “but we appreciate the patience and cooperation of our school community. Investigators are working hard to put this situation to rest.”
