Church Honors Congregation's Seniors

When was the last time you thanked a parent, a grandparent or some special senior citizen you know? A Savannah church was doing just that this Sunday morning. Asbury United Methodist Church held its Celebration of Love, a service dedicated to the senior members of the congregation.

They presented long-stemmed roses and certificates of appreciation to 28 seniors, including three people in their 90s. The church says it's a way to show respect, and say thank you for the many contributions seniors have made to our communities and our lives.

"I've been here since I was a little girl and I love this church, and it means a lot to me to be able to be here and to witness something like this," said Eva Roberts.

Rev. Beverly Flowers told us, "We realize that, if it had not been for our seniors down through the ages, we would not be here today, celebrating the things we have in the 21st century."

WTOC's own Dawn Baker took part in the service.
