Change of Command for Sidewinders

Cmdr. Gordon Oliver II Cmdr. Gordon Oliver II

There's a change for sailors at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. Today, Cmdr. Gordon Oliver II relinquished command of Navy Strike Fighter Squadron 86. The Sidewinders' former executive officer, Richard McCormick, is taking over as the squadron's new commander.

After 20 years of service to our country, Cmdr. Oliver is also retiring from the Navy. "It's somewhat bittersweet," he said. "I'm looking forward to the future, proud of the past accomplishments, it's a wonderful squadron. It's been a great opportunity to serve in the Navy."

The sidewinders are the only Navy squadron left at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
