Total Focus Nets 38 Suspects

Savannah-Chatham police have arrested 38 people in a crime sweep. It was part of the department's Operation Total Focus. Saturday night, about 115 additional officers hit the streets. Part of the sweep included going door to door to make sure offenders on probation and parole were meeting the conditions of their releases.

In all, officers made 13 felony arrests, conducted more than 100 field interviews, and made several drug seizures, including ecstasy and ten ounces of crack. They also recovered five guns and more than $8,000 cash.

Interim Chief Willie Lovett says the operation goes along with his goal of reducing crime by 15 percent. He says even one crime is one too many. "To the police department, one homicide, one aggravated assault, one burglary and one assault and one anything," is one too many, he said. "And we will hunt her down, arrest and then attempt to prosecute them."

Chief Lovett says Operation Total Focus will continue throughout the year.
