Marine Comes Home to Marriage Proposal

While some Beaufort Marines are called the Moonlighters, one reunited couple will soon be honeymooners. Valentine's Day may be over, but love was in the air at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort Thursday afternoon. Capt. Christine Vallely expected a warm homecoming, but she never expected this.

"I was surprised," Capt. Vallely said. "Not even a thought crossed my mind on my way back here. I was just excited to see everyone. Joe and my dad."

But this homecoming was special for more than one reason: a marriage proposal. "I did say yes, of course," said Capt. Vallely.

Capt. Vallely may have had no idea, but popping the question has been on her boyfriend's mind for quite some time.

"This is a golden opportunity," said Lt. Joe Houser. "I pretty much decided to do this when she left."

A golden moment even her dad approved of. "I think it's wonderful," said Tom Vallely. "Joe and Crissy have known each other since Annapolis as college mates."
