Elementary Students Celebrate Black History

Honoring the past, the present and the future was the message at Hesse Elementary School's annual Black History Program today. Close to 500 students, teachers and parents joined in the celebration.

The students have been learning about black history makers and inventors all month. This afternoon, they showed off what they learned through song, dance and special readings.

"It's important that all of our children, no matter what their ethnicity, that we all have something to offer," said assistant principal Lola Burse.

I had the honor of serving as their guest speaker, all of the students did a wonderful job.
